Book 11: Life of Pi

I tried to read Life of Pi in high school. It didn’t go well.

I think my mom got it for me for Christmas or my birthday or something like that. Back then I was SUPER into religion and really active in my church youth things. I think she thought it was the kind of book I’d enjoy.

Except I didn’t enjoy it. And I definitely didn’t finish it.

I don’t remember a lot about the book. I have no idea how far I got, either. I just remember being really bored and wondering why nothing happened except this kid being trapped on a boat with some animals. I think I kind of wanted the tiger to eat Pi or something. I just didn’t get it.

Then I got to college and EVERYBODY was raving about this book. I’m sure it actually wasn’t every single person I met, but it sure felt like it. There was even a rumor that we’d all have to read it for a class. We didn’t. But that was the first I heard that it was this AMAZING book that I absolutely HAD to read.

Since, I haven’t heard that much about it. It’s been sitting on my bookshelf for at least five or six years, but I still haven’t managed to read it. I’ve meant to. I’m sure that I’ll get more out of it this time around.
